Frequently Asked Questions
What happens on my first visit?ExaminationOnce your case history is complete, we will examine you to confirm any early ideas about your problem. The examination will concentrate on your nerves, muscles and joints, and it may also be necessary to check other things such as your heart, lungs and abdomen to rule out any other causes. X-rays might be needed depending on your problem.
Evaluating your posture is a very important part of the examination. We use a specialized digital system called Posture Pro V. The system works by taking a picture of your posture from the front and from the side. We then put the pictures through a computer and this analyses any displacements or misalignments of your body. Posture is a ‘window to the shape of your spine’ and we use the very latest non invasive technology to evaluate and monitor your problem.
Report of FindingsOnce the examination is complete we will tell you in clear simple language, what is wrong with you, what can be done about it and what you should expect when you receive treatment.
TreatmentChiropractic treatment involves safe, often gentle, specific adjustments, done by hand, to free the joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly. Most often, this requires a short, thrust to a joint that can result in an audible release or ‘crack’, and this is simply the sound of minute amounts of gases in the fluid of the joint as pressure is being released. This can usually bring some relief to the patient. Treatment will also include trigger point therapy, neuromuscular massage techniques and sometimes if needed we use dry needling techniques to relieve muscle spasm.
There is, however, no instant cure, and some patient results vary depending upon many factors. How long you have had the problem? Do you keep your appointments? Are you getting the proper rest, exercise and nutrition? Your Chiropractor will advise you on aspects of personal care that should also be adhered to, for example the use of ice and postural correction exercises.
